Last month, we had the pleasure of visiting Hadrian’s Tipi – an eight week pop up festive retreat in the very heart of Newcastle city centre. Its central location is part of its magic: you step off Northumberland Street and find yourself in a Geordie Lapland. With the young and old feeling festive together, beer and burgers are served alongside mulled wine and Bavarian Frankfurters. Open from 10am to 7:30pm, it’s the perfect location to escape the busy Saturday shoppers and get into the Christmas spirit with a smores latte from the R Place or a few Christmas tipples from the Lakes Distillery.
Outside of the tipi, it’s a magical mystery tour of the region’s most enchanting food and drink providers. You can sample fabulous flatbreads from Wood and Kindle, Byker’s Lebanese favourite The Bake , expert cocktails from Quaff Box, warming spirits from Lakes Distillery, and Fat Hippo‘s infamous burgers (so good, in fact, that they made our Top 10 local restaurants post earlier this year). You can also melt away Jack Frost with R Place‘s extensive drinks menu – peanut butter hot chocolate anyone?
Inside of the tent, it’s a toasty hideaway with the most magical ambiance thanks to a fire-pit and some fabulous live music. We all deserve to take a well-needed ‘pause’ that the Christmas holidays provide and what better way to do so than huddling around a fire with your nearest and dearest?
We had a wonderful evening and we can’t wait to return to sample some more of the region’s best food and drink! Hadrian’s Tipi also provides little ones (and true believers) with a chance to meet the big man himself. With a treasure hunt, magical post box, and present from Santa, the Elf HQ is a grotto with a difference! Make sure you book in advance as it’s a busy time of year for the elves.
Please let us know what has made you feel extra festive this year – we want to make the most of the Christmas countdown!
